Approximately 100 historical photographs; a large number of memory items; an almost 900-page, unpublished memory book on the region of Kharpert/Harput; a detailed family tree…
It is rare to find such a large and valuable trove of historical materials, dating from 100 to 150 years ago, preserved by a single family.
One such amazing collection is that of the Kazanjian family. A main figure of the family was Pilibos Kazanjian (1870-1936), who was born in the village of Keserig (present-day Kızılay), in the valley of Kharpert. While he was still very young, his family relocated to Hussenig (present-day Ulukent). Pilibos lived in the United States from 1887 to 1890, and then again from 1896 to 1901. In 1907, alongside his family, he permanently left Hussenig and settled down in the United States.
Notably, when he returned to Hussenig from America in 1901,
Pilibos brought with him a camera. Many of the photographs presented on this page were taken by him, using that camera.
The publication of this page required extensive and collaborative efforts by the Houshamadyan team and the descendants of the Kazanjian family. We would especially like to thank Deidre Casparian (Australia), John Casparian (Los Angeles), and Camille Mugrdechian-Armen (Los Angeles), whose collaboration made this unique page possible.
