Our newest family collection is unique, as we were unable to establish contact with the descendants of the individuals who appear in the photographs. Thanks to a stroke of fortune, we have more than 100 photographs from this collection at our disposal.
These photographs feature members of the Deyirmendjian and Djebedjian families. Their story begins in Ayntab, where a few of the photographs were taken. But the most memorable photographs are those taken in Aleppo, where members of the two families started new lives in the early 1920s.
The many photographs from Aleppo feature scenes from the city’s Armenian educational life, but mostly, they depict group trips and nature excursions to the outskirts of the city. These photographs attest to the two families’ determination to begin new lives in Aleppo after the massacres and deportations they experienced in
Ayntab.
